This post is prompted by a cover of a favourite that I’ve been listening to quite often lately. Whatever little music I’ve heard from Aerosmith comes through as enjoyable rock. “Janie’s Got A Gun” is no different as far as the sound goes. But it differs from the rest of their work in that it deals with a social issue. Now, don’t work yourself into righteous umbrage – maybe the band have been messiahs of sorts but that’s hidden to me.
Now to the reason for this post. Allegro Fudge did a cover of this song which I find very interesting. The trio’s let go of heavy instrumentation and yet managed to fill the song with a richness of sound with its use of vocal harmonies and little touches like substituting the lead guitar with the bass. Lovely. And part of the reason I (and quite a few who listen to Allegro Fudge) enjoy this version is that the band quite clearly had fun doing it. I hope you enjoy it too.
I’ve never been a fan of Aerosmith. They are the poor version of the Stones. This cover version is so much better than the original.

Glad you liked the cover. I’m not a ‘fan’ of Aerosmith either but I do like most of the songs on one of their ‘Best Of’ compilations, which is about as much as I can handle of their work

That is a little more than me. – I just looked at a couple of your older posts via the “My Morning Jacket” tag, and I see the comments are turned off. There is a great band. Love them.

Thanks for pointing out that bit on the comments being turned off on older posts. Changed the setting on that – open house now.
Yep, totally with you on My Morning Jacket. I doubt if I’ll ever see them live other than on video. As good as their studio albums are, they’re even better live – and I say this based on those videos and the one live album that I have.
